Transition Options & Details
We bought this property in 2010 and turned it into a full on organic permaculture / silvopasture / regenerative agriculture homestead. We've invested substantial time and money in doing that.
But we're now in our mid 70's and simply aren't physically able to operate the farm any more.
Time for someone else to take what we've built and take it to the next level. We're very flexible as to the financial arrangement as long as you have that vision and committment.
There's housing for you here, in addition to the main house where we live. Our ideal is to live out the remainder of our life on the homestead, but would be willing to do an outright sale.
Acreage Description
Rural 90 acres in East TN consisting of three adjoining parcels (could be sold separately). Enough flat, high quality "bottom land" to raise lots of crops, but probably not enough for beef. We did free range chickens and rabbits in tractors. One of the great assets is a mountain spring that gives us a gravity fed water system that we've run to all the growing areas. This spring is extremely high volume, never less than a few thousand gallons per day & the record is over 80,000 gallons in a day. We own the entire watershed so we know it's clean. Bordered on 2 sides by flowing creeks. We dug a 50X200 pond.

Production Details
Only honey currently, but set up for what we used to raise which was laying chicken flock (free ranged in our silvopasture). Meat chickens. American Guinea Hogs. Rabbits in cages, tractors and colony. Very large variety of vegetables, started in greenhouse in soil blocks transplanted to fenced garden. Extensive use of companion planting to deter pests. Several fields for space intensive pumpkins and sweet potatoes. We make biochar. We also make huge amounts of compost from shredded leaves, green grass & animal manure which we use in seed starting, then mulching the crops. We built an electric powered compost sorter for that.
Preferred Farming Method
Method Details
16 years the only chemicals we have used are diaotomacious earth, neem oil & BT. We make weed killer from vinegar, dish soap & epsom salt. We use a propane torch to burn weeds from the garden paths and fence rows. Extensive use of companion planting & aromatic herbs to deter pests. We start most everything early in the heated greenhouse then transplant to the raised beds & then heavily mulch with compost and or shredded leaves. We make our own custom organic fertilizer starting with the base formula found in "The Intelligent gardner" which we fine tune to our exact needs based on comprehensive soil test.
